 About

This site was created as part of a high-school science project designed to deal with a whole year of material. The class dealt with all of the foundations of scientific knowledge, building a common base of ideas that were important throughout a student's further science studies, including basic physics, chemistry, astronomy, geology, and biology.

Because of the wide range of topics, the project centered around a theme of ratios, proportions, and fractions: quantitative comparisons. The project guidelines called for eight seperate concepts to be addressed, with a different number associated with each one. For each number, there was to be an explanation of the number and the concept behind it. Each concept also required a visual aspect to illustrate the concept.

I chose to create a website to satisfy the needs of this project. I have done a lot of programming in the past, including in HTML, QBasic, Visual Basic, C, C++, Java, and most recently, PHP. This site combines many of these techniques to create a truly interactive experience.

One of the most important features of the Internet is that there are many ways of presenting information. Besides the traditional text and images, recent advances allow for presentations, video clips, animations, and interactive applets as part of the web. In particular, these interactive applets are a great way to allow the audience to interact with the information in real-time. By visualizing concepts and allowing the viewer to interact, the Internet has created a whole new field of learning technology.
